Trello
Connect Trello to create cards in a chosen list from new feedback and review status changes when a linked card moves to another list.
Feedback on your board. Automatically create Trello cards when feedback is submitted. When a linked card moves between lists in Trello, the change appears in Quackback for your team to review.
Note: On Quackback Cloud, integrations are available on the Business and Enterprise plans. Self-hosted installs include every integration.
Overview
The Trello integration enables:
- Create cards from feedback: automatically create a Trello card when new feedback is submitted
- Status review: when a linked card moves to another list, the change appears in the integration's Sync history for a teammate to review
- Rich descriptions: cards include feedback details, author info, and direct links back to your portal
Prerequisites
- The Owner or Admin role in Quackback (or a custom role that can manage integrations)
- A Trello account
- Self-hosted only: a Trello Power-Up (created at Trello Power-Ups Admin)
Self-hosted: create your Trello app
Note: On Quackback Cloud, skip this section. Quackback provides the Trello app for you, so you go straight to connecting.
Self-hosted instances connect through an app you create. Do this once before you connect.
Create a Trello Power-Up
- Go to the Trello Power-Ups Admin
- Create a new Power-Up
- Copy the API Key and API Secret
Save the app credentials in Quackback
- Go to Admin > Settings > Integrations > Trello
Enter the following credentials:
- API Key from your Trello Power-Up
- API Secret from your Trello Power-Up
Setup
1. Connect your account
- Go to Admin > Settings > Integrations > Trello
- Click Connect Trello
- You'll be redirected to Trello to authorize the application
- The app requests
readandwritepermissions with no expiration - Click Allow
2. Select a board and list
Back in Quackback:
- Choose the Trello board where cards should be created
- Select the list within the board (for example, "Incoming" or "To Do")
- New cards appear at the top of the selected list
3. Configure status mappings
Map Trello lists to Quackback statuses. When a linked card moves to a different list, the change appears in the integration's Sync history for review. Quackback doesn't update the post's status automatically.
4. Test
Settings save as you change them, so there's no Save button.
- Submit test feedback to verify a card is created in Trello
Card format
When feedback triggers card creation, the Trello card includes:
- Name: The feedback post title
- Description: The post content, the submitter's name, and a link back to the post in Quackback
Cards are created at the top of the selected list.
Status sync
Quackback registers a webhook with Trello to receive card updates. When a linked card moves between lists:
- Trello sends a webhook to Quackback
- The webhook signature is verified using HMAC-SHA1
- The destination list name is matched against your status mapping
- The change appears in Sync history for review. Quackback doesn't change the linked post's status on its own: update it yourself if the change applies
Note: Status sync responds to
updateCardactions where a card moves between lists. Other card changes (description edits, label updates) are ignored.
On post delete
When you delete a feedback post with a linked Trello card, the delete dialog shows a checkbox for each linked card. A checked card is added to the integration's Sync history for review. Quackback doesn't archive it for you: open it in Trello and archive it there.
To pre-check this by default, enable the On post delete toggle in the Trello integration settings. You can always override the default per delete.
Manage the integration
Pause
Temporarily stop the integration:
- Go to Admin > Settings > Integrations > Trello
- Turn off Integration enabled
- Card creation and status sync pause, but the connection remains
Reconnect
If the connection breaks, disconnect and connect again:
- Click Disconnect and confirm
- Click Connect Trello and authorize the app again
- Choose the board and list again
Disconnect
To fully remove the integration:
- Go to Admin > Settings > Integrations > Trello
- Click Disconnect
- Confirm the action
Who is shown as the creator?
Quackback creates cards in Trello as the account that connected the integration, so Trello shows that person as the creator. To change the creator (for example, to a shared bot account), disconnect, sign in to Trello as the other account, and connect again.
Troubleshooting
Cards not being created
- Check integration status: look for errors in settings
- Verify board and list selection: ensure both are selected
- Check permissions: the connected account needs write access to the board
Status sync not working
- Check status mappings: ensure Trello lists are mapped to Quackback statuses
- Verify webhook: the Trello webhook may need to be re-registered
- Check board access: the connected account needs access to the board
Connection errors
If Trello access stops working, disconnect the integration, then connect Trello again and choose the board and list.
