Moderation
Hold posts and comments for review, catch images and links, control anonymous interaction, set per-board overrides, and approve or reject items in the queue.
Moderation keeps spam and low-quality posts off your portal without slowing real users down. You can hold posts and comments for review before they go public, hold anything that contains images or links, and decide whether anonymous visitors can take part at all. This article covers workspace defaults, per-board overrides, and the review queue.
Workspace moderation settings
Go to Settings > Feedback & Roadmaps > Moderation. Only workspace admins (Owners and Admins) can change these settings. Changes save automatically.
Approval
The Approval card sets which groups' posts wait for review before they publish:
- Anonymous posts: posts from visitors without an account
- Signed-in posts: posts from signed-in portal users
Turn on either one to hold those posts. Leave both off to publish everything immediately. You can hold one group and not the other, for example hold anonymous posts while signed-in users post straight through.
Note: Comments are held by the workspace default only when both toggles are on (you require approval for everyone). Otherwise comments publish immediately, unless a board holds comments on its own Moderation tab.
Content review
The Content review card holds posts and comments for review when they contain:
- Images
- Links to external sites
These work alongside the approval toggles. Use them to catch link spam or unwanted images without holding every submission.
Allow anonymous interaction
Whether visitors without an account can vote, comment, or submit posts is set by Allow anonymous interaction in Settings > Access & Security > Portal access. It's on by default.
When you turn it off, every board requires sign-in for voting, commenting, and submitting posts:
- the Everyone tier on each board's Access tab is disabled for Vote, Comment, and Submit posts
- the server rejects anonymous votes, comments, and submissions
Viewing is never affected: anyone can still view a public board.
Note: This is a ceiling, not a floor. Turning it back on doesn't reopen boards that restrict an action themselves. A board with Vote set to Signed-in users still blocks anonymous votes.
Team members always bypass anonymous-interaction rules. The switch only affects portal visitors.
Per-board overrides
Each board can override the workspace defaults on its Moderation tab (Settings > Feedback & Roadmaps > Boards, select a board). There are three rules: Require approval for anonymous posts, Require approval for signed-in posts, and Require approval for new comments.
Value | What it does |
|---|---|
Inherit | Use the workspace default. The option shows the resolved value, for example "Inherit (On)". |
On | Always hold submissions for review. |
Off | Always publish submissions immediately. |
A banner on the tab tells you whether the board inherits all workspace defaults or overrides some of them. See Organize feedback with boards.
Review queue
Approve or reject held items in Feedback > Moderation (also reachable from Review > Moderation in the Feedback filter sidebar, or Open queue on the moderation settings page). The queue lists pending posts and pending comments. Each item shows the author (or Anonymous), the board, and the content, with Approve and Reject buttons.
- Approve publishes the item. An approved comment then counts toward the post's public comment total.
- Reject removes the item from the queue. Rejected posts are soft-deleted and can be restored from Deleted posts in the Feedback filters.
When nothing is waiting, the queue shows "Nothing to review".
The queue is available to team members who can approve posts, which includes every built-in role (Owner, Admin, Manager, Contributor).
Note: Team members' own posts and comments are never held. They publish immediately, whatever the workspace or board rules say.
