Write and publish articles
Create, format, publish and translate help center articles, set their audience, and use article performance data to improve them.
A good help article answers one question completely. This article shows how to create, format, publish and translate help center articles, and how to see which ones work.
Create an article
- Go to Admin > Help Center.
- Click New article.
- Enter a title, an optional page description, and the article body.
- In Article settings, pick a category.
- Click Save draft.
Field | Details |
|---|---|
Title | Required. Shown at the top of the article and in search results. |
Page description | Optional, but worth writing. Shown in search results and used for search engines and Quinn. |
Content | The article body, written in the rich editor. |
Category | Required. Pick from your categories. |
The article's URL slug is generated from the title.
Format content
Type / anywhere in the body to see the available blocks. The editor supports:
- Headings (H2 and H3)
- Bold, italic and underline
- Ordered and unordered lists
- Code blocks
- Blockquotes, images, tables and dividers
Tip: Use H2 and H3 headings. They build the table of contents shown beside each article.
Publish and unpublish
Articles start as drafts that no visitor can see. In the article's sidebar, the Status row shows Draft or Published. Click it to publish or unpublish.
Only published articles in public categories appear on the help center, in search, in the widget, and to Quinn.
Choose the audience
The Audience row sets who can read the article: Everyone, or selected segments. With segments selected, only signed-in members of those segments see it.
Translate articles
To publish in more than one language, first add languages in Admin > Settings > Help Center > Domains & languages, under Languages. Then open an article and use Translations to add the title, description and content for each language.
With AI available, Auto-translate can write a draft translation for each language whenever you publish an article. Drafts are never published automatically. Add Protected terms (such as your product name) that should never be translated.
Track what works
Readers see Was this helpful? at the end of every article. A "not helpful" vote can include a short reason ("What were you looking for?"), and can offer a Contact support link when your portal's support features are on.
In Admin > Help Center, open Article performance (under Other in the sidebar) to see views, helpful and not-helpful votes, the helpful rate, and the search terms visitors used. Articles with a low helpful rate are your best candidates for a rewrite.
Write for search and for Quinn
- Titles: use the words your customers search for, such as "Reset your password", not internal jargon.
- Descriptions: answer the question in one sentence.
- Headings: use H2 for sections and H3 for subsections, without skipping levels.
- Links: link to related articles when you mention a concept.
- One topic per article: Quinn answers best from focused articles.
