Discord

Feedback where your community lives. Get notified in Discord channels when new feedback arrives, statuses change, or users comment. Messages use rich embeds with post details and direct links back to your portal.

Note: On Quackback Cloud, integrations are available on the Business and Enterprise plans. Self-hosted installs include every integration.

Overview

The Discord integration sends notifications to channels when:

• New feedback is submitted
• Post status changes
• New comments are posted

Prerequisites

• The Owner or Admin role in Quackback (or a custom role that can manage integrations)
• Self-hosted only: a Discord application with a bot user (created at Discord Developer Portal)
• Permission to add bots to your Discord server

Self-hosted: create your Discord app

Note: On Quackback Cloud, skip this section. Quackback provides the Discord app for you, so you go straight to connecting.

Self-hosted instances connect through an app you create. Do this once before you connect.

Create a Discord application

1. Go to the Discord Developer Portal
2. Click New Application and give it a name
3. Go to the Bot tab and create a bot user
4. Copy the Bot Token

Save the app credentials in Quackback

1. Go to Admin > Settings > Integrations > Discord

2. Enter the following credentials:

   • Client ID from your Discord application's General Information page
   • Client Secret from your Discord application's General Information page
   • Bot Token from your Discord application's Bot page

Setup

1. Connect your server

1. Go to Admin > Settings > Integrations > Discord
2. Click Connect Discord
3. You'll be redirected to Discord to authorize the bot
4. Select the server you want to add the bot to
5. Click Authorize

The bot requests these permissions: View Channel, Send Messages, and Embed Links.

2. Route notifications

Back in Quackback, under Notification routing:

1. Click Add channel
2. Choose a text channel in the connected server
3. Choose which events to send there
4. Optionally set a Board filter to send only posts from certain boards
5. Click Add channel

To check the setup, submit a test post and look for the notification in the channel.

Notification format

Discord notifications use rich embeds with color-coded status indicators.

New post:

Status change:

Color: Depends on the new status. Complete is green, In Progress and Under Review are yellow, Planned is orange, Closed is grey, and other statuses are blue.

All notifications include clickable links to the post.

Event mapping

Send different events to different channels: add a channel for each destination under Notification routing, each with its own events and an optional board filter.

Manage the integration

Pause notifications

Temporarily stop notifications:

1. Go to Admin > Settings > Integrations > Discord
2. Turn off Notifications enabled
3. Notifications pause, but the connection remains

Reconnect

If you see connection errors:

1. Click Disconnect, then Connect Discord
2. Re-authorize in Discord
3. Reconfigure channels if needed

Disconnect

To fully remove the integration:

1. Go to Admin > Settings > Integrations > Discord
2. Click Disconnect
3. Confirm the action

Troubleshooting

Notifications not appearing

1. Check integration status: look for errors in settings
2. Verify channel: ensure the channel still exists and the bot has access
3. Check event mappings: confirm events are configured
4. Bot permissions: verify the bot has View Channel, Send Messages and Embed Links permissions in the channel

Connection error

The bot may have been removed from the server, or (self-hosted) the bot token may be invalid:

1. Self-hosted only: check the bot token in your Discord Developer Portal
2. Re-authorize the bot in your server
3. In Quackback, click Disconnect, then Connect Discord
