Widget overview
What the Quackback widget does: feedback, Messenger chat, tickets, in-app help, and changelog tabs, where to configure it, and how to integrate it with your app.
The widget puts Quackback inside your product: a launcher on your site opens a panel where people can give feedback, chat with your team, search help articles, and read your changelog without leaving the page. This article explains what the widget includes and where to configure it.
How it works
The widget is a small JavaScript SDK that loads a panel from your Quackback workspace. It appears as soon as init runs, for every visitor, and visitors are anonymous by default. To attribute activity to signed-in users, your server signs a short-lived token (ssoToken) and the widget sends it. Unsigned user details are rejected. See Identify users.
- On desktop, the panel opens as a 400 x 600 px popover anchored to the bottom corner of the screen. The launcher stays visible and toggles the panel.
- On mobile (under 640 px wide), it opens full screen with a close button. The switch between layouts is automatic.
Tabs
Choose which tabs appear in Settings > Widget, under Tabs. The tab bar hides when only one section is on.
Tab | What it does | Needs |
|---|---|---|
Home | Greets visitors and links to your other sections. Appears when two or more sections are on. | - |
Messages | Live chat with your team, and with Quinn if you turn it on | The Support module |
Tickets | Shows a customer's support tickets and their progress. Shown only when the customer has tickets. | The Support module |
Feedback | Browse, search, vote on, and submit feedback posts | The Feedback & Roadmaps module |
Help | Browse and search help center articles | The Help Center module (the tab is off by default) |
Changelog | Product updates and shipped features | The Changelog module |
Modules are turned on in Settings > General. At least one of Feedback or Changelog stays on while both modules are enabled.
In-app help
You can put your help center inside your product with the widget:
- Turn on the Help Center module in Settings > General.
- In Settings > Widget, under Tabs, turn on Help.
- To open help from your own UI, call
Quackback.open({ view: "help", query: "billing" }). Thequeryprefills the search. To open one article, useQuackback.open({ articleId: "..." }).
Your help center is also available as a standalone site. See Help Center.
What users can do in the Feedback tab
- Browse posts on your feedback boards, with board filters
- Search existing feedback
- Vote on posts they care about
- Submit new posts, with rich text and images
- Comment on posts
Who can submit and vote follows each board's access settings and your anonymous interaction settings. See Organize feedback with boards and Moderation.
Configure the widget
Settings > Widget has these sections, with a live preview you can switch between light and dark:
Section | What you set |
|---|---|
Visibility | Show on your website turns the launcher on or off everywhere. Shows the install status. |
Tabs | Which tabs appear, and an optional default board for the Feedback tab |
Layout | Button position (bottom right or bottom left), button label, and launcher greeting |

The install snippet, the agent install prompt, and the signing secret are under Settings > Widget > Install. See Install the widget.
Note: The widget uses the theme and colors from Settings > Portal > Appearance, not your app's own theme setting. See Customize the widget appearance.
Integrate with your app
- Events: subscribe to
post:created, vote, comment:created, unread, and more. See Listen to widget events. - Metadata: attach context such as page or app version to posts submitted through the widget. See Attach session metadata.
- Programmatic control: open the widget to a specific view, or hide the launcher and use your own button. See Install the widget.
Languages
The widget is available in English, French, German, Spanish, Arabic, Russian, Portuguese (Brazil), Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Dutch, and Polish, with right-to-left layout for Arabic. It detects the visitor's language from the browser, or you can set it with the locale option. See Internationalize your widget.
Mobile apps
