Import and export data
Import posts from a CSV template with a preview, export a board as CSV, and export your whole workspace as a ZIP.
Bring existing feedback into Quackback from a CSV file, and take your data out whenever you need it. This article covers the CSV import (template, preview, and import history), exporting a single board as CSV, and exporting your whole workspace as a ZIP.
Where to find it
Go to Settings > Imports & exports (under Data). It has three parts:
- Import: import posts from a CSV exported from any tool
- Export workspace data: everything as one ZIP
- Import history: recent import runs and their results
Imports and workspace exports need workspace admin access (Owners and Admins).
Import posts from a CSV
The import creates feedback posts. Every file uses the same template, so the work is mapping your old tool's columns onto it.
- Go to Settings > Imports & exports.
- Click Download template and fill it in with your data.
- Choose the kind of export you're bringing in. This only changes the mapping hint shown under the menu.
- Optionally pick a Default board for rows that don't name one. If you leave it empty, those rows go to your first board.
- Drop your CSV on the upload area, or click to browse.
- Review the preview: each row with its board, status, author, and whether it will be created or update an existing post, plus any boards, statuses, and tags the import will create and any rows with errors.
- Commit the import.
Note: The CSV import brings in posts only. Help center articles and support conversations can't be imported this way.
You need at least one board before importing. Files can be up to 10 MB and 10,000 rows. Columns the template doesn't use are ignored.

source_id. If something looks wrong after importing, fix the file and run it again: matching rows are updated rather than duplicated.
vote_count sets the number of votes shown on the post. It doesn't create individual voters.
Track import runs
Imports run in the background, so you can leave the page while a large file processes. Import history lists recent runs with their source, file, status, counts, and start time.
Export a board as CSV
- Go to Settings > Feedback & Roadmaps > Boards and select the board.
- Open the Data tab.
- Click Export posts.
The CSV has one row per post, with these columns: title, content, status, tags, board, author_name, author_email, vote_count, created_at. It uses the same columns as the import template, so you can import it into another board or workspace.
Board exports need the post export permission, which Owners, Admins, and Managers have. See Understand roles and permissions.
Export your whole workspace
- Go to Settings > Imports & exports.
- Under Export workspace data, click Export.
- When the run shows Completed in the export history, download the ZIP.
The export runs in the background, and only one can run at a time. Download links expire after 7 days.
The ZIP contains:
File | Contents |
|---|---|
Your board, status, and tag setup
Every post
Comments, including internal notes (marked private)
Votes, with the voter's email
Users and leads, with their segments and activity counts
Companies
Support conversations
Changelog entries
Help center articles
Export details and row counts
Note: On Quackback Cloud, board CSV exports and workspace exports are available from the Business plan. Self-hosted installs have no plan limits.

Troubleshooting
"Missing required columns"
The first row must contain at least title and content headers.
"Invalid CSV" or parsing errors
- Save the file as UTF-8.
- Put quotes around fields that contain commas.
- Keep the same number of columns on every row.
Dates import wrong
Use ISO 8601: 2024-01-15T10:30:00Z or 2024-01-15.
"File exceeds maximum of 10000 rows"
Split the file and import each part. Keep source_id filled so re-runs don't create duplicates.
